Artist Submission Guidelines

Shooting a High Quality High Resolution File from Your Original Artwork:

Your original artwork must be photographed with a professional level digital camera of at least 8 megapixels. You may also opt to use a professional photographic production company that produces much larger files for archival purposes. We have provided recommendations below for producing a high quality digital file from your original artwork.

Initial Review of your Artwork:

1. Please email a completed CONTRIBUTOR QUESTIONNAIRE.

2. Attach a sample of at least 10 low resolution jpeg images (800 x 600), and/or a link to your website.

3. If we are interested in your work for PRINTSCAPES.com following review of your jpegs and/or website, we will ask you to send 10 High Resolution images in TIFF format on DVD to PACIFIC STOCK (All PRINTSCAPES.com imagery will be collected by PACIFIC STOCK) for a quality check.

4. Upon our approval of the image content and quality, we will contact you to request a first high resolution image submission.

First Submission of Hi-Resolution Images:

PRINTSCAPES.com requires a minimum submission of 20 CAREFULLY EDITED, high quality digital images. If, upon review, we feel your work is marketable to our customers, we will send you our Contributor Agreement to begin representation of your artwork. Thereafter, we will expect to receive monthly submissions of your newly created artwork. We will also provide you with our regular wantlists with ideas of what our clients are requesting.

Please note that we generally do not accept images of people unless they are fully MODEL RELEASED. We highly recommend you secure Model Releases from all people featured in your artwork should the artwork depict an actual person(s).

Digital Submission Requirements:

All images may be sent to Pacific Stock for initial review on a CD or DVD as low resolution jpeg's. Do not separate subjects into file folders.

Image size must be at least 72 dpi and a minimum of 8" x 12". DO NOT CROP, send us the actual image dimensions. PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK reserves the right to crop accepted images to fit the dimensions for the current PRINTSCAPES.com platform requirements. Original files will be saved and uploaded in their original dimensions when the next generation platform is available.

All images must be rotated to the correct orientation. All images must have a short description entered into the IPTC (see Captioning Instructions below).

Note that images must be tightly edited prior to sending them to us. If we find that images have not been edited down to an acceptable level of quality they will not be reviewed.

Also note that images are being chosen for color (if applicable), creative/professional content and technical accuracy. Images that are not optimized at all may have less likelihood of being chosen.

Submitting Digital Images after Final Selection:

After we have reviewed your First Submission of High Resolution Images, we will email you a list of the images that we have selected. At this time, the chosen images must be optimized according to our specifications (see Digital Imaging Guidelines below and PRINTSCAPES.com Digital Imaging Tutorial online). Chosen images must be optimized and returned to us as 16 bit high resolution tiffs within one month of selection or you will be charged for our editing time.

If chosen images are not returned to us properly optimized they will be sent back to be redone with a letter explaining why they were not accepted.

IMPORTANT: All final selections will be returned to PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK within 30 days. If final selections are not returned within the required time frame, PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK will charge contracted artists for our time to edit the submission at $100 per hour, minimum one hour charge.

Digital Imaging Guidelines:

When you transfer your artworks into digital format, we welcome any digital imagery generated by Digital SLR's of 8 mega pixels or higher and/or high quality slide scans. Please process your digital images according to the following requirements in order for us to prepare them for dr and/or commercial usage.

The following guidelines must be followed when submitting digital images to us. Please read carefully .

Suggested Cameras:

Minimum 8.0 mega pixels or higher

Suggested Scanners:

Nikon Super Coolscan 4000, 5000 or 9000, Imacon Flextight, Drum Scanner

Required Software:

Photoshop CS or higher

Note: Photoshop CS2 is able to process RAW files much more quickly than previous versions (see PRINTSCAPES.com Digital Imaging Tutorial online for the step-by-step process required for submission).

File Type (in camera):

Shoot in RAW only we will not accept image files that are shot as jpeg's

File format:

TIFF (.tif) files only saved in PC format
Note: No channels or layers saved with images.

File size:

Minimum 48mb

Monitors:

LCD monitors will hold calibration better than CRT. If you are using a CRT monitor, be sure to let it warm up at least hour before editing your images.

Monitor Calibration:

We recommend that you use a color management system such as a Pantone Spyder to calibrate your monitor. If you are not using a calibration device, these are the settings you need to emulate our color space: white point set to 6500K and gamma set to between 2.0 and 2.2.

Color Space:

Adobe RGB 1998

RGB Values:

RGB Values in Photoshop should be limited to a white point of less than 250 and a black point no darker than 4. This keeps the RGB values of the file slightly less than the full 256 levels that would be possible if you were to set the values at 255 and 0. This is useful for limiting extreme highlight and shadow detail that will not print.

Bit Depth:

16 bits per channel. We do not accept 8 bit files

Orientation:

Please ensure that your images are in the correct orientation when viewed on a monitor. (DVD's will be returned to you before viewing to correct orientation.)

Dimensions:

PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK reserves the right to crop accepted images to fit the dimensions for the current PRINTSCAPES.com platform requirements. Original files will be saved and uploaded in their original dimensions when the next generation platform is available. Current dimensions available are as follows:

Option 1 Option 2
(.66 Ratio) (.75 Ratio)

8" x 12"

9" x 12"

12" x 18"

12" x 16"

16" x 24"

18" x 24"

20" x 30"

All accepted images that do not produce an acceptable cropped view (i.e. square, panoramic, etc), will be stored until the next generation platform is launched. Thereafter, they will be uploaded in their original dimensions.

Image Quality:

Images must be spotless. All images must be retouched before submission to be free of any visible imperfections like dust, hairs, scratches, excess grain, banding, pixilation, or unnatural color separation.
You must check your images at 100% zoom in Photoshop.

Sharpening:

Do Not Sharpen

Interpolation:

Do Not Interpolate

We will interpolate all accepted images

Printscapes.com and You

If PRINTSCAPES.com plans to represent your work...

Should we like your work and feel we can license it to our customers, a Contract which sets forth our mutual agreement will be provided to you. Our Contract length is 4 years. Under the Terms of the Contract, PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK negotiates the license of reproduction rights to your artworks. Almost all rights granted are for one-time use only. We very rarely extend exclusive rights to an image, and will notify the artist/photographer if exclusive rights are licensed.

Our Contract is "image exclusive". All images used in PRINTSCAPES.com and or PACIFIC STOCK marketing efforts including but not limited to PRINTSCAPES.com and PRINTSCAPES.com Websites, Catalogs, Advertising, etc. will be EXCLUSIVE to PRINTSCAPES.com and PACIFIC STOCK and may not be placed in other companies' Websites, Catalogs, Advertising, etc. You may place your NON-SIMILAR work with other on-line wall dr companies and stock photo companies. Photographers are allowed to market all images submitted to PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK on their own personal websites as well as place their framed prints with "brick and mortar" stores.

Our North American and International Affiliate Agencies will also be marketing all images submitted to them by PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK. If you have already established representation elsewhere, this point should be discussed prior to joining us.

Helping our Contributors Create New and Saleable Images
PRINTSCAPES.com is willing to provide its artists and photographers with suggestions and wantlists of particular subject matter if requested.

Royalty Payments to You
When an image is licensed for use, the usage fee is divided 60/40 - 60% to PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK, 40% to the contributor. If an image is licensed through one of our North American or International Affiliates, you will receive 40% of the net amount collected by PRINTSCAPES.com, after the International Affiliate Agency retains its portion of the royalty. There may also be applicable withholding taxes, currency conversion costs, etc. deducted from royalties. Should we provide an Assignment for you, PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK will retain 25% of the Commercial Creative Fee.

Generally speaking, contributors who join an agency can expect to see sales within 1 to 2 years after signing with the agency. The amount of sales you make correlates directly to the number of images submitted and accepted into the files. Consider this partnership with PRINTSCAPES.com/PACIFIC STOCK to be an investment which, if you are dedicated and shoot according to PRINTSCAPES.com guidelines and wantlists, will pay off in the years to come.
