The Mat Board

Mats are meant to compliment the images that they surround and enhance the visual appeal of the finished piece. They can serve to bring out a particular color and/or characteristic in an image, or simply give it a neutral space to "breath" before the frame's edge. Customers will often choose to double mat an image with a thin strip of the larger bottom mat showing from beneath the smaller top mat.
