LAURA FOWLER
Laura
Fowler will hike through a storm to photograph raindrops on a fern,
or she will journey to a special place at sunrise and wait for the
light. Even though Laura appreciates the creative opportunities
offered by digital manipulation, she prefers creating photographs
in the field with her camera, and recording the beauty as it exists
at a specific instance. Laura ' s photographs demonstrate her attention
to detail and dedication to perfecting her compositions. She creates
compositions that emphasize the unusual colors, lines, and patterns
that often go unnoticed. From the detailed patterns of a ti leaf,
to the simplicity of a single bamboo stalk, Laura frames artistic
compositions that portray the beauty of God ' s creations.
Laura grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. She studied art history
at Davidson College in North Carolina, and graduated with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in 1999. Laura became interested in photography at
the age of 20, while spending two semesters of college studying
and traveling in Europe. Workshops, classes, and practice have all
contributed to her knowledge of photography, but she credits three
years of assisting commercial photographers as the greatest source
of her education. Laura moved to Hawaii in 2002. She has enjoyed
the creative opportunities that the tropical plants and scenery
have provided.
